Hello, I am Mary Jo Garrett and I welcome you to learning more about me, how I work and seeking help for yourself. This first step of gathering information and then reaching out for help can be scary and requires courage. I believe you have made a brave step in acknowledging how important you are. Here is just a sample of some of the personal challenges you may be experiencing and desires for change you want:
and listening to others as well.
and divorce/dissolution.
As with any relationship, a comfortable connection with me is important too. Your next step is to call for an appointment to begin to check out if I am the right one to help meet your needs. Now a bit about who I am…. I have been providing psychotherapy and counseling to adult individuals and couples since 1997. My license as a Marriage and Family Therapist (MFT) is through the State of California. I received my Master of Arts degree, from Santa Clara University, in Counseling Psychology with a Health Psychology emphasis. Lifelong learning is one of my passions and I continue to be curious about who and how we are shaped as human beings. With that in mind, I am an avid seeker, participating in on-going consultation, workshops and seminars that deepen my clinical and personal capacity to understand humankind. Currently, I am enrolled in the Palo Alto Psychotherapy Psychoanalytical Certification Program at Stanford sponsored by the San Francisco Center for Psychoanalysis. Other professional affiliations include the California Association for Marriage and Family Therapy state and local professional organizations and the San Francisco Center for Psychoanalysis. As a former teacher of Special Education, Hospice professional and Couples Communication educator, I believe, I bring a diverse experiential and personal background to my work with individuals and couples. And how do I work as a therapist………….. Central to my work is developing a relationship with you, whether in individual or couples therapy. I strive to provide a safe, empathetic and unbiased environment for you and I to explore your inner world and external realities. This healing relationship can open you to experience a deep emotional connection with yourself and me. It is a unique relationship that may feel like no other in your life experience. Many people feel as if their therapist is the first and only person where they can reveal their fears, fantasies, secrets and sufferings. I believe that every human being has the capacity to heal, change and grow into a life more than they have imagined. Central to change is identifying what is real and true, while grappling with those false assumptions you hold. The journey of personal therapy is much like looking for buried treasure. There are times where we will explore the past and how your particular beliefs and values were formed. We seek to discover your unconscious or unaware thoughts and feelings, that when found, invite your active involvement in thinking about them openly, connecting them to your emotional awareness, and then moving onto accepting, rejecting, changing or channeling them into a more meaningful life. The results can open you to the unlimited treasures of being loved and loving fully, humankinds deepest desire. I see patients at least once and often multiple times a week. The length of the treatment depends on the depth of your problems and pain. I work on a fee for services basis, outside of insurance plans. I will provide you with a statement of services for you to submit to your insurance company. I welcome your call on my private voicemail at (408) 398-6698. |
